Releases

From Wicket 11 on, a long-term support (LTS) release ships once a year, and a current release with new features every quarter. Each release line has its own page with Maven coordinates, downloads, what is new and documentation.

Every release is announced on the announce list, on the blog and in its Atom feed.

If your application runs on a line with its last release coming, or one past its end of life, plan the upgrade: the upgrade paths show how.

Upgrade paths

How to move an application to a line that stays supported.

You are on Your path Guide
Wicket 9.x

9 → 10 LTS (Java 17) → 14 LTS, July 2027

Wicket 9 reached end of life with its final release, 9.25.0, on 26 October 2026, and with it Wicket's support for javax.servlet. Move to 10 LTS: it brings jakarta.servlet, is supported until July 2027, and hands over to 14, the next LTS.

For the step to 10, the OpenRewrite recipes of wicket-migration do the repetitive part: the jakarta imports, the Java 17 baseline and the moved Wicket classes. If you need help or more time, companies that offer Wicket support are listed on the wiki.

Wicket 8.x

8 → 9 (Java 11) → 10 LTS (Java 17)

Wicket 8 reached end of life with its final release, 8.20.0, on 26 October 2026. Take the Wicket 9 step first, because each migration guide covers one major version, then continue as for 9.x.

Wicket 10.x Stay on the LTS until Wicket 14, the next LTS, ships in July 2027. For new features every quarter, move to 11: it needs Java 21 and Jakarta Servlet 6.1.

Release policy

Since Wicket 11.0.0, released in October 2026, Wicket follows a time-based release schedule: a new major release every three months, and every fourth major release — once a year — is a long-term support (LTS) release. The table above shows the supported lines and the releases scheduled after them.

Two release lines are maintained at any time:

The support window applies to the release line, not to individual features. Features are developed on master and carry over into every following release, so a feature introduced in Wicket 11 is also present in 12, 13 and in the next LTS, Wicket 14.

Wicket 10 is the current LTS and stays supported until Wicket 14 is released in July 2027. Wicket 8.x and 9.x reached end of life with their final releases, 8.20.0 and 9.25.0, on 26 October 2026, and with them Wicket’s support for the javax.servlet API: Wicket 8 and 9 reach end of life. The schedule was announced in A new release cadence for Apache Wicket.

End of life

These release lines get no more releases, not even security fixes. If your application depends on one of them, upgrade to Wicket 10 LTS; the upgrade paths show how.

Version Latest release Status
Wicket 7.x 7.18.0 End of life
Wicket 6.x 6.30.0 End of life
Wicket 1.5.x 1.5.16 End of life
Wicket 1.4.x 1.4.23 End of life
Wicket 1.3.x 1.3.7 End of life
Wicket 1.2.x 1.2.5 End of life
Wicket 1.1.x 1.1.0 End of life
Wicket 1.0.x 1.0.0 End of life

Release archives

The Apache mirrors only carry the latest release of each supported line. Every older release is in the Apache archives.

SNAPSHOT repository

To try a SNAPSHOT version named on a line’s page, add the Apache snapshot repository to your pom.xml:

<repository>
    <id>apache.snapshots</id>
    <name>Apache Development Snapshot Repository</name>
    <url>https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/snapshots/</url>
    <releases>
        <enabled>false</enabled>
    </releases>
    <snapshots>
        <enabled>true</enabled>
    </snapshots>
</repository>

Snapshots can be deleted at any time. Do not go live with one.
